Carys' musical journey began early, growing up in France within a musical family. She joined a choir at age 8 before becoming part of her family band, Tone and the Tonettes, at age 11.

Before embarking on her solo journey as Carys Mai, she further honed her craft as part of the pop-rock band Alys and Carys & the lads, performing regularly across the south coast in the UK and northern France.

Her classical training in opera provides a solid foundation, while her decade of saxophone studies and three years of percussion have shaped her intuitive understanding of melody, rhythm, and arrangement.

This rich musical environment helped Carys develop a deep and versatile relationship with music from a young age, laying the foundation for her boundary-crossing sound.

Her performance history includes the prestigious Royal Albert Hall, where she performed with her school orchestra, and as a solo artist in venues and events across the globe including Australia, Bali, Croatia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Spain and France.

In 2024, her exceptional talent was recognized when she won first prize in a Costa Rican nationally recognised singing competition.
